UNC Asheville business professor arrested while out on bail, charged with assault on a government official

Asheville, NC – An associate professor at the University of North Carolina Asheville was arrested Sunday around the 200 Block of South Liberty Street.

Susan Clark Muntean, 54, has been charged with:

  • Assault on a government official
  • Simple assault

Muntean has taught in the school’s business department for 11 years. She was out on a $2,000 unsecured bail stemming from April 8th charges of second degree trespassing and resisting a public officer.

A video posted to Muntean’s LinkedIn appears to show her being placed on a 30-day paid investigatory leave. BDX News was unable to independently verify the accuracy of this video, or any justification for the alleged leave. At the time of writing, neither UNC Asheville or affiliated administrators have commented on the pending charges or claims of Muntean being placed on leave.

Muntean is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond.
